EXTRA CREDIT - Written Essay
Alright...I know that there are some of you that are wishing they'd done better earlier in the term...and there are some of you that just LOOOOOOVE to blog...and there are some of you who will take on any challenge that I give you...and there are some of you who will have nothing better to do...so I thought I'd offer you the chance for a little EXTRA CREDIT.
I want you to write on your blog about a photograph that you didn't take this term that you are really really sad you didn't. Tell me the reason why you didn't take it. Tell me the reason why you are sad you didn't take it. Describe it to me in as incredibly beautiful detail as you can possibly muster.
Make me cry that I can't see it.

Waterford Server
This is a message I got today:
"The student server is out of disk space. I have ordered a server with 10 times the disk space of our current machine. I plan on setting it up over spring break and moving everything currently on wsalta to the new box. In the meantime your students will have to save in other places or make space on wsalta for new files. Sorry for the inconvenience."
So...from now until the end of the term, you're going to have to save your images on your 'C' drive. That is the computer you are sitting at.
When you have me again, all of the server issues will be solved.

Final Project
Ok gang, here's the template for your final projects.
1. Six images on the blog. Sequence them in the order you want them to be seen in. If you don't think it makes a difference, think again. Sometimes it can make a HUGE difference, sometimes a subtle difference.
2. Write about your final project. How it started, how it morphed and changed and finally how it ended up.
3. Write about what this project taught you.
4. KEEP WATCHING THE BLOG THROUGH FINALS WEEK.

Salt
My friend, Murray Fredericks is a photographer from Australia. He has been photographing his project called 'Salt' for the past six years.
You can see some of his images here.

I don't want you guys to take six years to complete your own projects, but I thought you might be interested to see someone else working on a long-term project about salt.

Final Project
Remember this? Yeah, let's get working on it.
A 'Final Project' ought to have a unifying theme or idea. Blog 6 images, make 3 prints.
Due the last day of classes. February 20th, 2009, if you have forgotten.
DON'T PUT THIS OFF. YOU WILL REGRET IT.
Oh yeah, you need to write down your idea and submit it to your blog. You get points for this, so don't put that off either.

Assignment #5 - Re-shoot
Alright, you asked for it...here is your next assignment.
I want you to re-shoot your most favorite shot of the term that you feel you really screwed up on. Make it better. Make it RIGHT. Find the focus, find the light, find the angle, clean up the background, get the right expression...whatever it was that you really screwed up on the first time you took it, re-do it and offer me NO EXCUSES. You can re-shoot it as many times as you want, but only pick ONE image.
Now, the hard part.
You only have to turn in one new image on the blog, and one print. Easy right? Well, you only have 3 pieces of paper to print it with. Honor system and all that, but I want you to show me each time you print it. I will keep track.
I want you to post on your blog in this order:
1. the original image that you selected to re-do
2. the original, unretouched version of your re-shot image
3. the retouched version of your re-shot image
4. write about it. A LOT.
DUE DATE: Thursday, February 12th ALL BLOCKS
EXTRA CREDIT:
Print it using only ONE sheet of paper TOTAL.
EXTRA EXTRA CREDIT:
Do all of your re-touching and/or Photoshopping in 5 steps.
EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA CREDIT:
Explain to me in your blog why I'm having you do this assignment and why the restrictions are in place.
GOOD LUCK.
