Assignment #4 - Portraiture

So I've decided that two weeks for each assignment is fine for the 8th graders, but it's not fine for you guys. You need to be pushed a bit more. I think that somewhere between a week and 1 1/2 weeks per assignment would be good, but terribly confusing...so I'm going to make it 1 week for each assignment from now on, due on each Thursday. Why Thursday? It's the day I see each block of this class and it makes it easier on ME. I will give you your assignment for the following week with enough time to complete it.

Portraiture -

DUE - THURSDAY, JANUARY 29, 2009

That also happens to be the same day as Parent/Teacher Conferences...

I want you to explore with the different ways that you can describe someone else. I want you to photograph at least 3 separate individuals, none of them can be younger than 10 years old, none can be older than 110.

Explore showing various angles of these people. Showing them in different kinds of light, harsh light, soft light (harsh light = direct sun, soft light = shade or window light). One of the requirements will be to photograph them in profile as a silhouette. Some examples are below.

We'll look a lots of portraits in class, so don't worry about not knowing what a portrait is.

Assignment requirements:

- photograph 3 people
- photograph at least one as a shilouette
- photograph your subjects in different types of light
- photograph your subjects simply
- post 8 shots to your blog
- print 4 shots out of the 8 that you post to your blog
- blog and prints due at the BEGINNING of class

Hopefully by next Thursday when the assignment is due, I won't feel like this:

Rather...I hope I look like this:

can we only photograph 3 people, or can we shoot more?

You can shoot more if you'd like. Don't ever worry about shooting too much for me.
